CHN has developed and manages over 1,000 apartments. CHN provides rent subsidies to an additional 400 tenants renting from private landlords. CHN also provides all customary property management functions for its portfolio of scattered-site apartments. In addition, CHN's staff coordinate interaction between tenants and outside participants in the community living effort; the treatment provider, case manager, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and the surrounding community. CHN also operates supportive housing apartments under the Stages of Change Model for tenants with histories of chronic homelessness who have expressed a desire to live in supportive housing but may not have taken steps to seek recovery services. Staff is present on a 24-hour basis and building-based supportive services are provided as well as links to community-based services.
CHN has cultivated and maintains through regular contact a broad network of relationships with community groups, housing and social service providers, public officials, police and neighbors. These contacts serve as a referral base and also provide feedback on unmet need and an early warning system to head off problems.
CHN has committed to responsible and comprehensive property management. CHN's oversight of its apartments is far greater than most property management organizations. CHN has 24-hour on-call capacity and a constant presence at its buildings. CHN carefully selects its tenants and fully expects that tenants will be respectful of neighbors.
