Inglewood Court

Community Housing Network’s newest development, Inglewood Court, is a self-contained permanent supportive housing community located at 3720 Sullivant Avenue, just west of Wilson Road. The development provides 60 one-bedroom apartments for people disabled by mental illness and histories of homelessness. Inglewood Court’s community spaces have been designed to facilitate social engagement, which will enable residents’ reintegration and socialization. Inglewood Court features a fully-equipped exercise room; multipurpose TV/game room; community room with kitchen for meetings, potluck dinners and parties; computer learning center and six shared laundry rooms. Designed with resident privacy and relaxation in mind, the Inglewood Court property incorporates green space, large trees, a covered picnic area and a walking path that encircles the building. Inglewood Court was designed in compliance with LEED standards. CHN plans to seek LEED certification for the building.

Inglewood Court is in close proximity to police and fire stations, a hospital, places of worship, shopping centers and grocery stores, a library, a community recreation center and entry-level and part-time employment opportunities. Residents also have easy access to public transportation, as a bus stop is conveniently located at the end of the property driveway.

Inglewood Court is a Rebuilding Lives project supported by the Rebuilding Lives Funder Collaborative, a group of public and private organizations that provide funding and other resources to supportive housing projects. Construction began in the spring of 2012 and was completed in the spring of 2013.

Resident services

CHN partners with Columbus Area Integrated Healthcare, Inc. , a provider of integrated behavioral healthcare services, to provide a full range of support services including mental health and recovery services to residents.  CHN encourages the use of the agency, as well as other job and vocational services offered through the Center of Vocational Alternatives, a CHN partner.

Onsite CHN staff—benefits specialist, community integration specialist and a crisis intervention specialists—provide mental health counseling services as well as other programming, such as goal setting, physical fitness, basic life skills, budgeting, job preparation, accessing benefits, family reconciliation, and leisure activities. A licensed practical nurse also provides services to address the myriad health services, including medical monitoring, medical referrals, medication monitoring, symptom management, mental health crisis intervention and preventative functions.

Project management

CHN developed, owns, manages and operates Inglewood Court. CHN security staff have a constant presence at Inglewood Court—24 hours a day, every day of the year. Security limits entrance to the building to residents and registered guests, provide assistance to residents, and monitor the common area and building grounds. A closed circuit security system, as well as interior and exterior cameras, help provide added safety for residents.

Community relations

The community supports the development, as evidenced by letters from neighbors and support from the Greater Hilltop Area Commission. CHN and neighborhood representatives have executed a Good Neighbor Agreement that specifies commitments to resident behavior, ongoing communication, and building maintenance. A Good Neighbor Agreement between CHN, the Greater Hilltop Area Commission, the Hilltop Senior Village and Water of Life Church defines the community standards and expectations for operations and communication to assure this housing’s success for both the residents and the neighborhood. 

The Inglewood Court Community Advisory Council was formed to assist with project planning and ensure long-term community participation. The Community Advisory Council will serve as a forum for continuing communications for the parties. Neighbors and neighborhood organizations are invited to serve on the council.
