Meet Destiny

Destiny’s first experience with homelessness began at a very young age when her family was forced to stay in a shelter. From that moment, she knew she wanted a different future.

As the oldest of seven children, Destiny often longed for a space of her own. But like many young adults, the cost of living made it impossible to move out on her own. She spent years moving between her parents’ homes—until she found Community Housing Network.

In 2022, Destiny was placed in one of CHN’s independent housing units. For the first time, she had a place to call her own—along with the continued support of her building’s property and resident managers when needed.

CHN helped equip Destiny with the resources she needed to foster her independence, such as rent and food assistance, and bus passes. Living independently didn’t just change her day-to-day life—it also improved her relationship with her parents. “They’re proud of me,” she shared.

Today, Destiny works part-time as a dishwasher and recently applied for a new dishwashing position she’s excited about. In her free time, she enjoys reading, learning new skills like cooking and sewing, spending time with family, and studying for her IT support certification.

"It’s peaceful, and I can study and relax. I really enjoy it," Destiny said. "It’s a blessing."
